Kedarnath Temple is a famous temple located in Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand state of India. Kedarnath Temple is one of the 12 Jyotirlingas as well as Char Dham and Panch Kedar. The ancestors of priests have been worshiping this self-manifested Jyotirlinga since the time of Lord Nar-Narayan.

According to a belief, the temple was built by Adi Shankaracharya in the eighth century. Since the time of Adi Guru Shankaracharya ji, the Rawals and Pujaris of the Jangam community from South India worship the Shivling in the temple, while the worship on behalf of the pilgrims is performed by these Tirth Purohit Brahmins. This temple has been an important pilgrimage site for thousands of years. There is some inscription on the steps of the temple in Pali or Brahmi script which is difficult to make out clearly. this temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva.

According to legend, the history of the Jyotirlinga located in this temple in a nutshell is that the great ascetic Nar and Narayan Rishi, the incarnations of Lord Vishnu, used to do penance on the Kedar Shringa of the Himalayas. Pleased with his worship, Lord Shiva appeared and as per his request, granted him the boon to reside forever in the form of Jyotirlinga. This place Kedarnath Parvatraj is situated on the lion named Kedar of the Himalayas.

How to Reach Kedarnath Temple?

Kedarnath temple can be reached by bus, train, airline. The cost of traveling from Delhi to Kedarnath by these vehicles will be explained below. All vehicles have different costs.

By Bus: If you want to go to Kedarnath temple with the help of bus, then you have to first take a bus from Delhi to Rishikesh, the fare of which can be from 500 to 1000 rupees. One has to take a bus from Rishikesh to Sonprayag and from Sonprayag to Gaurikund, whose fare can be up to ₹500. There is a 16 kilometer climb to the Kedarnath temple from Sonprayag, which has to be done on foot.

By Train: A train ticket from Delhi to Rishikesh can range from ₹200 to ₹1,300. Which includes seats from sleeper class to AC first tier. Train is available till Rishikesh, after that you have to take bus or cab.

By Air: The flight ticket fare from Delhi to Dehradun is 3000 to 6000 rupees. After reaching Dehradun, you will have to go to Sonprayag with the help of a cab from there. From Sonprayag one has to trek 16 kms to reach Kedarnath Temple.
